ABOUT ME
MY NAME IS SAMPSON ZEHANOVIZ
Like a good ol’ Alberta boy, I started apprenticing for my father when I was twelve, and watched him closely as he built our Fort McLeod family acreage into the welcoming home it is today. Through my childhood apprenticeship, I gained a great respect for the carpentry trade and knew that I wanted to be a skilled carpenter myself.
As soon as I was able, I earned my Journeyman Carpenter Certificate from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) in Calgary, where I honed my woodworking skills, and learned how to build safe and secure structures. I have recently returned to SAIT to complete my Blue Seal Carpentry Certificate, in order to better serve my clients and ensure I stay up-to-date on current building codes and practices.
Over the next 15 years, I gained extensive work experience in industrial, commercial, and residential settings as a lead carpenter, superintendent and project manager. Through these experiences, I have achieved additional certifications such as asbestos abatement, confined space entry, and my Class 3 drivers license. I am currently in the process of achieving my Blue Seal Journeyman Certificate, so that I can stay on top of current building trends, practices and code.
From a commercial standpoint, I have built weigh stations, installed sub-terrain tank farms, office remodels, and wash stations for semi and hydrovacs trucks. I have been an integral part of residential building teams throughout Alberta, who have constructed countless newbuild homes, additions, renovations and garages. During the 2013 Calgary flood, I gained extensive remediation experience while working for Alec Williams Construction, who completed the demolition and reconstruction of luxury homes in Elbow Park and Mission.
Over the past few years, I have developed a keen interest for environmentally friendly building practices such as R-2000 and passive solar building design. I recently implemented many of these practices during the building of my own acreage property, which I completed the vast majority of myself, including electrical and plumbing aspects.
At the end of the day, construction is what I love to do. It gives me a great sense of purpose and accomplishment seeing a client’s office or dream kitchen become a reality. I greatly enjoy interacting with my clients, learning about what’s important to them, and earning their trust by delivering quality projects on time and on budget.
